LaunchPad Troubleshooting
Following are some solutions to possible problems you may encounter while starting EverQuest:
- LaunchPad won't startup -- Double-clicking the EverQuestLP application icon does nothing. Cause: The launchpad was installed by "unstuffing" the "EverQuestLP.sit" file using an OS 9 browsers and an OS 9 version of Stuffit Expander. As a result, the Unix execute privilege did not get set.
Solutions: a) If the "EverQuestLP.sit" file is available, unstuff it using the OS X version of Stuffit Expander, b) Download "EverQuestLP.sit" again, using an OS X browser, or c) Follow these steps to set the execute privilege:
1) Drag the EverQuestLP to the desktop, open the Terminal application 2) Type:chmod a+x~/Desktop/EverQuestLP.app/Contents/MacOS/EverQuestLP 3) Drag the EverQuestLP from the desktop back to its folder
- LaunchPad quits after startup with "The application has unexpectedly quit..."
Solution: You are probably running an older version of OS X. EverQuest for the Macintosh requires OS X version 10.2.4 (Jaguar). To check your version, use the "About this Mac" command under the ? menu. If you have a version older than 10.2.4, please consider upgrading.
- You are not sure if patch files are actually being downloaded
Solution: Click the "Patch Information" button to see a detailed log of the patch operation.
- You see the message "An error occurred while starting the game."
Solution: You may have installed onto a disk volume formatted for Unix ("UFS"), not Macintosh ("Mac OS Extended"). Some Macintosh applications, including EverQuest, cannot be run from a Unix disk volume. You can drag the entire EverQuestLP folder onto another disk volume and try it again.
- In the Console application, you see the message "*** Warning: Line option kATSLineIsDisplayOnly has been deprecated. ***"
Solution: Ignore it. This is a spurious error message from the OS.
